Mighty Box were developed with the following in mind
Cross Platform
Java simple code generation and mobility will allow to run MB in Windows and Linux.
and the great thing is, that Windows and Linux could share most of the plugins. so both communities will benefit from the development.
Extensive Plugins System
the Java Plugin Framework was used to implement a plugins system. It very advanced, plugins can define extension points, plugins therefore can extend other plugins, they can share code, libraries and resources, or not, if the plugin does not permit it by permissions.
Fully customizable UI/skins
Not only the user UI can be rebuilt from scrach and integreated for each skin plugin, you can even go as far as deserting Swing and using a completley other widget system like java-gnome or SWT for native UI. everything goes. the core can interface with whatever UI you build, very easy integration.
Module Oriented Core
most of MB basic functionality is divided into modules/plugins too. the file system is a plugin, text actions are a plugin, and applications artwork provider is a plugin. which gives you the full control over what you want enabled/disabled.
